Vision

The Greater Pittsburgh Chapter is one of more than 200 chapters of the Oncology Nursing Society, a professional organization of over 35,000 registered nurses and other healthcare providers dedicated to excellence in patient care, education, research, and administration in oncology nursing. ONS is the largest professional oncology association in the world.

Our vision is to be leaders in oncology nursing and transform cancer care in Pittsburgh and its surrounding communities.  Established in 1985, our chapter members represent more than 100 oncology nurses from Western Pennsylvania who care for patients with cancer and their families in hospitals, clinics, and physician offices and serve as direct care providers, educators, administrators, and researchers.

Mission

The mission of the GPC-ONS is to cultivate excellence in oncology nursing by:
  • Encouraging nurses to specialize in the practice of oncology nursing
  • Studying, researching and exchanging information, experiences, and ideas leading to improvements in the field of cancer nursing
  • Fostering the professional and leadership development of oncology nurses
  • Maintaining an organizational structure and function responsive to the evolving needs of our members and the populations we represent
