Tumor Lysis Syndrome

Free CE activity that might be of interest to you and your ONS chapter members, titled, Nursing Management of Tumor Lysis Syndrome. Those who complete this online activity will earn 1.0 contact hour.

Tumor lysis syndrome (TLS) is an oncological emergency characterized by hyperuricemia, hyperkalemia, hyperphosphatemia, and hypocalcemia. These electrolyte imbalances may be severe enough to cause acute renal failure, cardiac arrhythmias, seizures, and even death. While there are prophylactic measures that greatly reduce the severity of TLS and its manifestations, patients at risk for TLS must be identified and treated prior to the appearance of either laboratory or clinical symptoms to effectively reduce or prevent the syndrome.
